Tips and Tricks: Introduction

HOW ARE PRODUCTS MADE

Making sealant and adhesive basically consists in mixing basic ingredients until you get the product you are looking for. A batch card listing manufacturing characteristics follows the sealant or adhesive batch throughout production. This card bears the production date, the name and number of the product, the sequencing of raw materials, the manufacturing process, the packaging date and details, and both the expected and resultant quantities.

The product manufacturing process involves 5 steps: receipt and preparation of basic ingredients, ingredient mixing, quality control, packaging and delivery.

Reception and Preparation of Basic Ingredients

Basic ingredients are shipped by truck to the manufacturing plant’s warehouse. Specialists examine samples at their lab to ensure the ingredients meet specifications.

When a batch is to be produced, ingredients are prepared and weighed before being sent to the manufacturing center.

Ingredient Mixing

Ingredients are mixed to produce a homogeneous paste. This step may include the dissolution of specific ingredients such as rubber and resins and can take several hours. The production of Mulco elastomer sealants concludes in a vacuum to obtain high-performance products with a smoother finish. More cost effective caulkings require less precautions and contain air.

Quality Control

The laboratory controls product quality by testing features such as viscosity, homogeneity, color, ease of application, etc. Any required alterations occur at this point. When a product meets specifications, the lab authorizes packaging.

Packaging

Products are packed-up by a sophisticated system. Because some products are exceptionally viscous, the system uses some very powerful pieces of equipment. The amount of product in each container is also checked.

Warehousing and Delivery

Containers are stored at Mulco and deliveries are made from that location.
